How to Reach Leh

By Air: Leh has an airport, which is well connected from Delhi/New Delhi International Airport. From anywhere in India & world you can reach Delhi and then take a direct flight to Leh

By Train: Nearest railway station to Leh is Chandigarh or Pathankot. From either of these stations, you need to hitch a bus or cab ride which will atleast take 2-3 days to reach Leh city-center

By Road: One can reach to Leh from 2 sides: Chandigarh to Leh (through Manali / Rohtang Pass, in which case you need to arrive to Chandigarh by flight) or Kashmir to Leh (through Kargil, in which case you need to arrive Kashmir by flight)

Day 1: Arrive in Leh

Day 2:- Leh Sight-seeing & exploration

Day 3:- Leh to Chang Ma (12,950 ft) Trek 5.5 km (4 hrs)

Day 4:- Chang Ma to Mankorma (14,300 ft) Trek 3.5 km (3 hrs)

Day 5:- Mankorma to Base camp (16,000 ft) Trek 4 km (4 hrs)

Day 6:- Acclimatization Day at Base Camp

Day 7:- Base camp to Stok Kangri back to Base camp (20,180 ft)

  1. Day 1: Arrive in Leh, India

    The best option to reach is via air/flight. Flights to Leh are scheduled to reach before noon or latest by 3pm. The average temperature in Leh stays around the 10 degree C mark, and during winters it can drop down to a bone chilling -20 degrees C or even lower. On Day 1 its all about relaxing and acclimatizing with Leh weather. Because Leh is at a high altitude, its important to acclimatize before the trek starts

    Enjoy the cultural and natural beauty of Leh. Leh is culturally a rich place. There are dozens of monasteries and ancient temples that you can go around. They are located in and around the town. Therefore you would be getting enough time to go around the place in a day. While you might think that we should have started for the trek, it is important to take 1+ full day to acclimatize.

    The day starts with a drive to Stok village. At the start of the drive from Leh, you would go through many exotic and beautiful scenes. The drive to the Stok village is an adventurous one and if full of natural beauty and lush green trees. Not much climb to the camp site. It will take around 4 hrs to reach camp site.

  4. Day 4:- Chang Ma to Mankorma (14,300 ft) Trek 3.5 km (3 hrs)

    The day starts with breakfast and it will show you the real beauty of Leh and gives you the answer why Leh known as cold desert. Today’s ascent is easy. It will take around almost 3 hrs to reach camp site.

  5. Day 5:- Mankorma to Base camp (16,000 ft) Trek 4 km (4 hrs)

    Today’s ascent is moderate to difficult level. Base camp area has a number of water bodies in the form of lakes and water streams. During the day time, you can walk on the upper areas of the campsite and enjoy the views of the surroundings. There are some beautiful peaks like Gulap Kangri, Parcha Kangri and many others.

  6. Day 6:- Acclimatization Day

    One of the easy day for trekkers. Your trek leader and guide would let you know about all the different changes in the terrain. You need adequate knowledge and experience to go around the mountains. It is also a day when you need to take enough rest so that you are well prepared for the coming excursion over next 1-2 days which are of difficult level.

  7. Day 7:- Base camp to Stok Kangri back to Base camp (20,180 ft)

    You should wakeup early to start the climb. The route goes through glaciers and then comes to steep slopes to the summit ridge. This is a long climb, so you should be mentally strong and prepared psychologically. It would take somewhere between 10 to 12 hours for average climbers. Slow climbers may take another 2 to 3 hours in addition. At the start of the trek, after a couple of hours, you should reach to the summit of the ridge. The summit offers you great views of the area. The wide and open surroundings give you a royal feeling. Towards the north, you would get a view of the Karakoram Range. The Saser Kangri dominates the sky in the north along with the Karakoram, and the Zansker ranges in the south.

  8. Day 08: Base camp to Leh

    The trek which included high altitude trekking mountaineering and expedition would finally come to an end after this day. From base camp trek back to Stok via Mankorma. Reach Stok and drive to Leh. Arrive Leh and check in to hotel for overnight stay.
