Where

Gir forest is located in Gujarat. It covers a total area of 1412 square kilometres. It is home to the endangered Asiatic lions. It spans over 1412 square kilometres. According to history, the Indian forests were raided of their big cats by royal hunting expeditions. Climate

Gir enjoys a tropical cool climate. Gir forest remains open throughout the year.The mercury drops to about 10 degree Celsius in winters and soars up to 43-degree Celsius in summers. Safari

The Safari is an activity that you cannot afford to miss on your trip to Gir national park. Each safari lasts for about 3 hours. Along the course of your safari be prepared to witness the majestic Asiatic lion, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Blue Bull, Indian gazelle and the Chowsinga, the world’s only four-horned antelope. Bask in the cool patches of shadow in the tepid sunlight while traversing through the rutted path. The safari is usually on a jeep accommodating up to 6 people. The park is a protected area, hence it is open only from sunrise to sunset. Only prescribed vehicles are allowed to enter and leave the premises. the vehicles have to be accompanied by forest guide and park admin personnel. Don’t forget to carry water bottles, snacks while on the safari. Take care not to litter. Also, ensure that you do not provoke or irritate the animals. Carry your binoculars to spot animals at a distance. Carry a camera to snap away pictures of wild animals in their natural habitat. Make sure to also carry enough sunscreen, insect repellants to protect yourself in the forest. The Safari is usually the most sought after activity.
